Prior To stabilization with polymers, all material will be thoroughly tested for grading modulus, PI, MOD And OMC and
then mixed with the required amount of Polymer and compacted in a CBR mould.
After The curing period the samples are extracted from the CBR Mould and crushed under a hydraulic press. The CBR Mould as per AASHTO
Specifications is 150mm In diameter and 150mm In height.
These Crush test results are then recorded and extrapolated over the tire footprint area of 0,1m .
Example:
Typically A CBR Sample (150mm X 150mm) Mixed with POLYMER, Will crush under an unconfined crush test of say 11,7 kN or 1,1 tons. The Area of the
CBR Sample is then extrapolated over the 0,1m2 Area of the tire footprint.
CBR Sample area
= r2
CBR Sample area
= 0,017671m2
Footprint Area
= 0,017671m2
0,1m2 (tire Footprint area)
= 5,659 (CBR Samples per tire footprint)
Load Bearing capacity of tire
Footprint area
= 5,659 X 1,1
Tons
= 6,25 Tons (per wheel)
Axle Load bearing capacity = 6,25 Tons x 4 = 25 tons
i.e. 249 KN per axle (AASHTO Requirement is 80kN / axle)
